Bruce Greenwood and Odette Annable are heading to Venice, Calif. The Star Trek alum has landed the starring role in ABC’s Romeo and Juliet-themed soapy pilot Venice, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, while the House actress has nabbed a co-starring role. The pilot revolves around the haves and the have-nots of California’s most seductive region, Venice. The drama will focus on two rival families (the Nances and the Carvers) and a forbidden and dangerous romance emerging between them as they battle for control of the beachside community.

Greenwood, who will reprise his role as Pike in Star Trek Into Darkness, will star as Gordy Nance, the most powerful man in Venice. The head of the Nance family, he’s described as Bill Clinton, without the moral compass. Annable, who most recently starred on Fox’s Breaking In, will play Gordy’s daughter Sophie, an independent thinker who owns a trendy Venice boutique. She has her father’s business sense but has been in love with the Carvers’ son, Chris, since she was a girl. Jennifer Beals will play Lisa Carver, the matriarch of the rival family, in the drama that reunites her with The L Word showrunner Ilene Chaiken. Without a Trace’s Byron Balasco will pen the pilot and executive produce alongside Peter Johnson, Chaiken and McG, who will direct the Warner Bros. Television pilot.

If you were hoping for a quick happily ever after following the epic kiss between Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) on “New Girl,” this news is really, really going to disappoint you. The FOX comedy has cast Odette Annable in the recurring role of Nick’s girlfriend. Sorry.

Annable, best known for her roles on “House,” “Breaking In” and “Brothers and Sisters,” will play the character of Shane, according to TVLine. Shane comes into Nick’s life when she is hired as the new manager at the bar. A graduate of management school, Shane is basically the anti-Nick — efficient and perky.

Of course Nick has to fall for her. Annable is expected to appear in several episodes of “New Girl” this spring, indicating that this particular romance is more than just a one-night stand.

Where does this leave Jess and Nick? Without giving too much away, let’s just say that the pair will not be going straight down the romantic path into relationship bliss any time soon. Tuesday’s (Feb. 5) episode makes that very clear. So Nick might as well date the hot boss in the meantime!

Fran Kranz and Odette Annable have roles in The Truth About Lies, the story of an emotional but self-centered drifter. Kranz has the lead role of Gilby, an aimless guy who’s fired from a dead-end job, dumped by his girlfriend and forced to move in with his mother when his apartment building burns down. Annable will play Rachel, a restless twentysomething looker married to money. The Truth About Lies is directed by Phil Allocco and produced by Steve Carr, Jason Taragan, Isen Robbins, Aimee Schoof and Nadine C. Licostie.

Kranz most recently appeared in Lionsgate’s Cabin In The Woods and will be seen in Last Weekend with Patricia Clarkson. He also appeared on Broadway in Death Of A Salesman.
